I think Starbucks is brave for trying such a thing (making an instant). It’s a bit like Ferrari coming out with an economy car.

On a related note, I saw new Battlestar Galactica for the first time recently. People having to stay awake due to imminent cylon attack, drinking loads of coffee and with a lead female character called Starbuck! Secret Starbucks endorsement or what.
It’s definitely better than other instant coffees to which I’ve been subjected! Obviously not as strong as the original Italian Roast, but it’s certainly palatable.
