I wish I were an Oscar Meyer wiener.
Plop plop fizz fizz

I have jingles running through my head from nearly every period of my life, and we didn't even have a TV! While we were on furlough I watched a lot of TV at my grandparents' house, and radio jingles were unavoidable.

My fiancee recorded a number of Medellín's most notable jingles, but that was after I had moved to the US.

Where there's Muriel smoke, there's fire. 1977. (Cigar commercials were allowed for a while after cigarette ones were banned.)

Thanks Johanna -

You were close on the Coke jingle: "I'd like to teach the world to sing, in perfect harmony." (Reached #7 on the US charts in 1972!)

Hey Brother Bill! I'm a big fan of yours, ever since I read your Amazon review for a hairdryer. Hey, I can answer your first two trivia questions. For Coca-Cola is it "We are the World" or something like that?

Anyway. I can't stand all the quick cuts. I personally wonder what the trend will be. How many quick cuts can you do? Will they suffer a backlash, and suddenly all those quick cuts will fade out, and we'll have "slower" commercials? These are the things that keep me up at night.

Here's a little trivia challenge for the blog readers: Can you name the first line of the famous jingles for Alka Seltzer, Oscar Mayer, or Coca-Cola? The one for Coke was released as a pop single and was on the charts for awhile.

Tim: What you say is totally true - and also sad. High maintenance is rarely a good thing!

Johanna: Pride of ownership is an admirable thing. It's not necessarily related to the external perceived value of the item.

I feel sad looking at that blue Escort wagon. My grandpa owned one just like it. And he loved cars probably as much as you do, or more so. I don't know. He had many nice cars when I was growing up, but he made a strange decision when he got his Escort. Believe me, he always had it polished. Loved that.

You're so right about this Paul. I can't tell you the number of times I've seen people buy an older Mercedes, BMW, Lexus or Acura only to find that it costs just as much to maintain one that's 10 years old as it does to maintain a new one, and worse, that the older ones, without warranty, are simply to costly to repair. All of the technical sophistication that is built into those cars eventually breaks down, and many times the repairs would cost more than what the car is worth.

Mike - I hope that more people discover them. I have half thought of getting rid of all my other pens and only using InkJoys.

I completely agree. After buying a Space Pen and expecting to be wowed I was disappointed that it was just a plain ball point pen with a nitrogen cartridge. I ended up at Target and ran across a display for these pens and just had to try them. After writing one word I was in love. This is now my daily driver pen that goes with me everywhere, and like their marketing it is VERY hard to not have them stolen. They are effortless an smooth to write with and the white has a nice almost hipster look to it. I now buy them in bulk from Amazon.
