So my kids have this thing about leaving the lid off the toothpaste. Whenever I go in the bathroom we share, I see the lid missing. I get mad. I raise my voice.
Heather, being the balancing agent she is in my life, reminded me that I was making a big deal out of something small. I agreed.
How important is it if the toothpaste dries out? Not very. Is it worth paying three times more for toothpaste that has a magic lidless dispenser? No. Should I fight my kids over something so small? No.

You can show them this show called “Time Warped” on the Discovery Channel, to scare them out of leaving the cap off.
Time Warped shows misc. things in super-slow motion, and the one you’d find useful is the episode regarding toilets.
You can show them (via the show) that germs/bacteria/etc. from the toilet actually travel really far! Unless you have a separate room for the sink and toilet, your open toothpaste is exposed to the mushroom cloud of bacteria, that happens every time you flush.
